Neato XV-11 Battery Options

Post by bojangling »

I need to replace the battery on my XV11 and was wondering what options I have available (located in the US). I was looking to purchase from Amazon but some of the reviews suggest the recharge time is 5-6 hours. The Neato store itself is out of stock and pricey. Ebay has replacements but some threads here suggest I may have issues. Anyone have any positive experiences with a specific vendor/battery they can suggest? :thanks:

Recharge time should be based on the battery capacity as well as the output current of the charger. 5 to 6 hours using 1.25 amps for 3500 mAH packs seems reasonable.

There are some batteries advertised on Amazon @ 3200 mAH packs that are actually 3500 mAH. Some members here are quite happy with those packs. Maybe someone will post which Amazon seller that is.

Neato's recharge time when cleaning depends on the portion of the capacity used and not on the total battery capacity.
The maximum run time and charge used is programmed and not expanded by larger capacity.

Bought my 3500mAh XV-11 replacement set from http://stores.ebay.com/Eurus-Wings for about US$55 a couple of months ago. I now see this item is no longer listed, however there's still some others on eBay that look just as good. Very pleased with my 2 year old Neato's runtimes and good behaviour since the upgrade.

Be careful that the description, picture and price all indicate that TWO battery packs are being sold. A couple of us got caught out with eBay seller 'UK-expert' selling single Neato battery packs, but with an illustration that showed two packs. I see some other eBay sellers apparently selling these as single packs judging by the photos. Check the price - if cheap compared to others, then they're probably single packs and probably not such a good deal afterall.

The East Coast Photo batteries at Amazon are mentioned here and there, and one came in perfect condition with full run time. It came 3800 mah; it appears that's the cell size made now, even though listed as 3500 from older listing. There was a deeper discount on it one time, a special sale.

I also have the 4500 mah from Vic7767, which also came fully operational. None of this shelf-life stickiness reported on Neato's delivered with comatose batteries needing a wake up call.

That's hell of a lot of money for a battery pack that doesn't actually contain all the parts! (as it says you need the parts from an existing pack).

There's a hell of a lot of work involved in building the packs and don't forget the price is for two.

Note those batteries have 50 per cent larger capacity than original Neato batteries, which costs much more. (The Neato run time is fixed by programming; the higher capacity can mean longer lifetime use.)

I've ordered these batteries from vic7767 and will report on how well they work.

I never heard of HQRP, but these are fabulous batteries for Mr. Neato. Before he would need to re-charge twice and now he does the whole downstairs in one shot, as well as the whole upstairs in one shot. The only thing that would be better is if Amazon would make these a Prime item - are you listening, Jeff? LOL

UPDATE 9/27/13: Still tickled with the outstanding performance of these batteries, and now THEY ARE A PRIME ITEM! I guess Jeff and I are closer than I thought. -wink- Thanks Jeff!

I have been reading this thread with interest. I received a Neato XV-15 from Costco and had the batteries die at 6 months. Called Neato and they said they would sent out a replacement. However, the CS rep states that average battery life is 7 months to a year. That combined with filters and blades seem to be a fairly steep cost in expendables. The 4500mAh battery pack is intriguing - it would be worth it if the battery lasted 2+ years. Can anyone share how long your 4500 mAh battery has lasted? Vic?

Thanks

I haven't been building the custom 4500 battery for 2 years. I do have one 4500 battery pair that is about a year old. Additional data like number of runs as well as number of charging cycles also comes into play when determining the lifecycle of the pack pairs. The normal average charging cycle count is around 1000. If a Neato is run every day then the pack pair will possibly not make it a full 365 days let alone two years if three runs are needed to accomplish the cleaning environment.

I'm tempted to suggest they meant to say 7 minutes, considering their recent battery problems, but I won't :shhh:

Still, 7 - 12 months seems a rather short life. Especially since they're probably talking about the more recent models with docks that now provide longer recharge times to improve battery longevity. My XV-11's original batteries began to show signs of old age at about 20 months, averaging 3 runs (with 3 recharges/run) per week and using the original Neato ~50 minute old-style 'full steam ahead and damn the torpedoes' fast charger
