Braava M6 Threshholds
Braava M6 Threshholds
I got a new Braava and it's having serious problems climbing up thresholds - it's barely half 0.5cm and is rounded and the Braava still isn't able to get up. It gets halfway up and then goes backwards and gives up.
Anyone know if there's a hack to get it to work? I've tried taping the drop sensors with no luck

Re: Braava M6 Threshholds
I think thats just how sensitive the M6 is going to be with thresholds and bumps. iRobot customer support told me that it will only go over anything 3mm or less.
On another note though, what would be nice is if they could push out an update where it would be able to back up over a threshold and then continue on, similar to how it backs up to its own dock.

Re: Braava M6 Threshholds
I would imagine it is due to its carpet avoidance bumper, like the 380t.
Re: Braava M6 Threshholds
Funny enough, my 380t got through the thresholds fine. The Braava gets halfway up before giving up and turning around which is frustrating
What's the point of imprint if you're stuck carrying it around from room to room

Re: Braava M6 Threshholds
This is indeed quite an annoying problem. We have tile and laminate floors throughout our apartment. Of course there is a slight "bump" when the two are joined. When the mop encounters the joinery, it quietly retreats and never even attempting to cross the threshold.
Quite disappointing. Really would be nice if there was a setting to tell it to "give it a try at least"!

Re: Braava M6 Threshholds
Recently I discovered this same issue with Thresholds and did some research on what others havd suggested, or accommodated as solutions.
I read one individual dremeled off the rounded tabs underneath the unit on each forward corner. This appears to be the hindrance of the unit going up some transition.
Obviously there are some words of wisdom, like voiding the units warranty, etc. In addition this might cause the unit to not recognize carpets, yet one could opt to use the boundaries options to ward off restrict areas and include carpet.s a solution yet with risk.
Software would seems a reason solution to allow the unit to "back up" over transitions; that being said their would have to be some logic for it to be "told" its a transition as opposed to it is entering a carpeted area
I am going to call iRobot yet I expect them to give their script line about 3mm transition climbing. One cannot even buy a 3mm floor reducer.
lastly, I thought about fabricating my own low rising transition "ramp" and placing it on the transition areas during mopping phases
thoughts?

I’m going to make some of my own as well, will go root around at the lumberyard to see what type of trim I can fashion that would smooth the transition. I have two bathroom doors, I need to get through.
Re: Braava M6 Threshholds
Has anyone come up with any new hacks or solutions to the threshold issue? Although the m6 is supposed to cross a 3mm or less threshold, that is way to small for a normal threshold.
I just bought a Braava m6, and although I love the mapping feature, I have thresholds on either side of my kitchen so it's not practical.
I found a 1/16" x 1.5" x 48" flat aluminum bar on Amazon. I've ordered, and am going to attempt to paint and install it as a replacement for my current thresholds.
Has anyone tried grinding off the front bumpers as mentioned by DManton on January 4, 2020? Or, I wonder if elevating the unit by wrapping the wheels with some sort of rubber would do anything?
Sure wish iRobot would come up with an app option to override the threshold sensor, for the many of us that have no carpets or rugs in our home!

howd you go? Im not interested in voiding my warranty by altering the machine, but am interested on any reasonable adjustments to my threshholds.kjmartin wrote:Has anyone come up with any new hacks or solutions to the threshold issue? There is new software available to deal with thresholds. See:

Re: Braava M6 Threshholds
nothing in that video refers to software to make it cross thresholds better?

Re: Braava M6 Threshholds
Thought I would share how I solved the m6 threshold problem.
My issue like others is the threshold was to high for the m6 to clear.
So I carefully removed the threshold. Grabbed my sander with 80 grit sand paper and sanded off the bottom of the threshold and reattached. Since I sanded the bottom, no refinishing was needed.
In my situation I was lucky because I had a wooden threshold. That did the trick. Now the m6 can enter my laundry room quite easily and get to its charging station with no problems.
Hope that helps someone. Its a great robot, not sure why they wouldn't make the threshold configurable in the app. It must be the reason for so many returns.
Love the robot though!
