Electrolux Trilobite Bumper Sensor, and housing broken.

Post by vacuumboy98 »

Hello, I had purchased an Electrolux Trilobite from somebody, and I found out on the farthest right hand side bumper had been cracked and the sensor had been pushed in. That may have been the reason that the robot is all scuffed and scratched on that side. What shall I do? Its only that problem and a couple other scratches that make this robot used. I have attached a photo, as you can see I have put tape to help keep the plastic from moving as much. Thanks, Patrick.

The white sensor is one of the ultrasonic sensors that pick up the reflected signal from the ultrasonic emitter bar above it. The black sensor is one of the cliff sensors to keep it from falling off of a step or drop off. Other than trying to find an old Trilobite that you can buy to use for parts, the only other option I know of is you can send it to the Electrolux repair facility in Texas (the only one I found that will do Trilobite repair). I can try to look up the address and contact info if you desire. I didn't think earlier but I think they will also replace the batteries as well but I believe that you have to send them the entire Trilobite before they will do that since they have to "troubleshoot" the unit as a whole. They won't send you just the batteries I believe. All of this for a cost of course.

Oh, hey again! I just replied to your last post. I think the Trilobite's part of this forum is pretty dead now. Well, I live in Texas so that's a good thing, maybe I can ask my parents to take a trip to the repair shop:P Thanks, Patrick.

If you are careful, you can taken the bumper off and see if you can push the sensor back out again. You have to be careful taking the bumper off - there are other posts on this forum that explain how.

I have dont this now, but I have noticed that the Trilobite will scoot too close to the wall or object and rub against it.

Yes, it probably will if the sensor is misaligned or broken. My Trilobite was very good at following the profile of a room or object without touching... but the drawbacks of the Trilobite overall (lack of memory, fickle nature, power hungry, cost/difficulty of repair/parts - even just buying filters for it had become a pain)... it's just too much trouble, and all but obsolete by comparison to others now on the market.
