Roomba 870 vs Botvac D85

Post by RussIX »

Both seem to be ~$500 on a few different sites. Would appreciate any advice on which one of these you all might recommend.

There are few write-ups online that compare the D85 to the 880, but not the 870.

My situation/considerations:
-3 large hairy dogs, so pet hair is really the main purpose for the purchase (It seems that the roomba has a better no-tangle system with the rubber brushes. Will the botvac require much more maintenance and pulling out of hair? this could be a deal breaker.)
-Mostly hardwood floors and medium pile area rugs
-Would prefer something that is not particularly loud. (I've read that Botvac series is louder than roomba although the D-series supposedly has improved on that?)
-Would like for the vacuum to do a good job around corners and or be able to navigate somewhat under tables around chairs since that is where the dog hair tends to accumulate. (botvac's shape seems attractive for this, but roomba's randomness seems like it maybe could handle non-rectangular spaces better?)

thanks in advance!

I think Roomba 870 is the best vacuum cleaner for home task. It's using method really as well as easily done all work.

I had a D80 and now have an 805, and without a doubt the Botvac picked up more hair, especially from carpet/mats than the Roomba. The D80 is notably louder, but I think that goes straight to it's sucking/pickup ability of fine dog hair.

The Botvac shape isn't that big of a deal as Roomba uses the brush to move things off wall and into its rollers.

Finally, I didn't notice much hassle with cleaning/untangling the Botvac, about the same as Roomba.
