With an 8.5 in. front brush and 40 minute run time, it resembles the old original Neato XV with a side brush -- Vorwerk VR100 -- but with shorter run time, so oriented towards smaller spaces. More info needed on control features, scheduling etc., price, supplies like filters and side brushes (they wear out) -- and the expensive battery. WiFi not mentioned. The brush looks like an all blade brush, and whether there is a bristle brush for it not clear. This class of robots competes a lot on price -- especially when reliability of a new product is unknown. A second generation of an older model with some improvements.
Fans of the old Neato robots annoyed by the higher prices of added doodads on the successors might be interested.

I may be mistaken, but it looked in one video above like the side brush rotated clockwise -- away from the intake. How's that supposed to work? Maybe an illusion of filming, with frame speed slower than the brush, stroboscopic.
There should be some cleaning demo vids with scattered debris of the usual kinds, show clearing the path.

[edit] Another video shows it correctly; they claim better corner cleaning, fairly obvious with a front corner side brush.
I have found these come at a cost, in frequent brush replacement, breaking against sharp edges, and pulling wires away from walls. Yet they are a popular feature on robots except not so much on the newer, more powerful class of vacuums like Dyson and others. They don't clean carpet where dirt gets embedded. So, hard floors are popular.

While I wish my aging Neatos could handle slightly higher changes in floor level (in my case worn treads don't help), but this AEG's ability to climb 22mm would put it at risk of escaping outside with my doors open in summer. It'd be nice for it climb onto the bathroom tiles, but I'm not sure I want to vacuum the backyard
#1 Neato XV-11 SW 2.0 Board Rev 113 / 4400mAh Lithium Power battery installed Jan 2018 / Pet & Allergy pack installed Sept 2013. In July 2014, received and repaired a faulty #2 Neato XV-11, running Lithium Power 4400mAh battery since July 2015

That's what mag strips are for -- if it even uses them.

Saw 1299 Euros in the post fine print. That's a premium robot price, for other bots with cyclone extraction etc.
They need to show what is so special about it to cost more than the current Neato models apparently similar. Maybe it is just available where others are not. Mysteries abound.

It is listed often as Electrolux MotionSense.

Mmmm. Are you actually a genuine in-house Electrolux engineer working to develop something new, or simply a product buyer trying to source something interesting from China, where you can simply badge engineer an off-the-shelf Chinese-developed product, and add a huge mark-up Patrik?

As someone who once worked in Marketing, occasionally with Electrolux themselves, I strongly suspect the latter. There's nothing new or innovative on offer here... nothing that the Chinese couldn't market themselves if only they owned the rights to a hitherto reputable name with which to badge it themselves - like Hoover... or even Electrolux!

Do Electrolux really think a $400 Chinese product is worth 1299 euros... even with the a trusted brand-name printed on it? It's hardly the innovative tech that Trilobite once led with.

I'll say here what others must already be thinking, and say it before anyone else has the nuts to say it: It's a piece of boring, overpriced junk.

Not clear who the AEG named on the videos is, but there is an old German appliance company of that name. As I understand it, Swedish Electrolux, like many old appliance names, does not exist as a company anymore, just a brand which is sold for use by others. It's like such products became too much a commodity with intense competition after so long, and newer things like digital electronics coming to the fore. The Iconic Brands corp. owns a lot of old names.

This robot could compete with the Xiaomi if marketed at a similar price, under cutting the majors, with the more reliable solid state camera guidance -- depending on quality in all other areas, such as the smartphone app. Its value seems to have been over estimated by the marketers. Since there was an earlier model, maybe there was some experience with that, who knows.

Both AEG and Electrolux were, at one time, premium manufacturers of electrical household product throughout Europe. High class, beautifully made product, that deservedly commanded a price premium.

Today, both AEG and Electrolux have closed almost all their Western European factories, and offer almost exclusively only Far Eastern sourced crap. Each brand has only minor cosmetic differences between them (usually nothing more than a change of plastic colour and branding). Yet it's being sold at high prices AS IF it were still manufactured in the Western world with Western world overhead.

I can agree that Electrolux fall down, but AEG still is high quality premium price brand.

There are some user reports in Germany at roboter-forum
http://www.roboter-forum.com/showthread ... lectrolux)
Some questions about navigation quality with their design.
Similar concerns with price. The established Vorwerk is getting a lot of service complaints.
There just don't seem to be any major innovations compared to the German Bosch high end, besides the camera.
So the appliance makers are moving into the market pioneered by the robotics specialists.

Peter... Even your own pictures above clearly demonstrate that both AEG and Electrolux today are the same company, simply badge engineering product. Both companies, where hitherto they used to manufacture their own premium product in their own separate European factories, each to their own individual high-quality standards, today simply only offer identical, most often Far-Eastern sourced, cheaply made product... albeit sold at European-made prices. The ONLY difference between these two brands are minor cosmetics and branding on the facia. AEG and Electrolux are today in fact the same company.

Check each manufacturers web-site - or even Amazon - to see the full range of identical product simply being cheaply sourced and "badge engineered".

It's a sorry state of affairs.

Hey, sorry for my late reply, I didn't see the response earlier. We have actually been developing something completely on our own here. And you are right, we were proud of Trilobite when it was launched and many of the people are still on the team behind the new PUREi9. It took some years before we got back into this category, we wanted to get it right and not launch before we were sure we could make a substantial difference in this category.

I know the price of 1299euro sounds high but I am sure you can find it below 1000euro on the market now.

It's really exciting to get feedback on the product in this forum since the level of expertise in the category seems really high.

Attaching a couple of film clips from an event we had recently.

What customers look for in new models is either a price advantage on old tech, or a significant innovation, an advance reducing the limitations and costs of using these robots. No specifications so far for this device shows any innovation. It looks like another Vorwerk VR200 with a higher price -- and shorter run time.

Customers also want to know how they will maintain the product as robots require periodic expensive battery replacements as well as filters (in those without washable filters, a recent innovation in some brands). So established brands are of interest in order to judge whether supplies will even be available over several years use of such expensive appliances. Many customers may buy them with extended warranties such as Best Buy Geek Squad contracts up to four years. Since some brands have shown less than perfect quality in components, with all our discussion here of repairs, customers also want to know the reputation for quality of the company -- for which there is no record from this new product. Perhaps the AEG brand has some recognition in Europe, but they have no presence in the U.S. (as neither does Vorwerk Kobold - except it now includes Neato Robotics as a wholly owned subsidiary).

One issue with maintenance is whether the company even supplies spare parts, and technical info, not often the case. It takes a substantial service operation to supply these devices properly. Besides the usual User Guide, does the company supply a Service Manual? We have not even seen a User Guide yet on this product to know what its features actually are.

In appraising the robot market you might look at a Canadian and French company long standing, Robotshop.com, Montreal and Paris. Maybe some of those folks can give you opinions. They are dealers in all aspects of the consumer robotics market for over a decade (you might know them from Trilobite days). They used to offer 5 year warranties on vacuums, at somewhat higher prices. Would they be comfortable warranting electrolux?

(This all reminds me of the greeting from The Wizard of OZ --The Great and Terrible: who are you and why do you seek me?)

Send a sample to this Spanish reviewer on Youtube: robotsaldetalle. Interesting tests. Draw back the curtain...

The IFA show placard: "vacuum from anywhere". Like WiFi is distinctive? The marketers have no clue (like Jon Snow in GOT? "you know nothing...").

Another metaphor, Sir Laurence Olivier in "The Marathon Man" movie, villain constantly asking "Is it safe?" Here the question is "Is it fake?" Does it actually clean the house -- what limitations does it have, or does it just make splashy displays on a smartphone? Venders are not disposed to disclose such facts, so we are here where all is revealed, all details of style in the Emperor's new clothes.

Electrolux is one of (if not the) largest manufacturer of white goods, and owns lots of brands, among them AEG, which is an old German manufacturer, so nothing strange here.

I have 4 old Trilobites still cleaning my house, bought the first one in 2005, I think. Still going strong, nothing has broken on it, I have only changed the batteries. I see that the Pure i9 sells at SEK8990 here, so it is about exactly the same as I bought my first Trilobite for.
I would consider this one for sure.

The dustbin looks quite large, which is a must for me - don't want to have to empty too often, the navigation looks good, with few bump-ins on the few videos I have seen. Question is how it will do in my totally black home theater..
Also, one of the videos said HEPA, but there's no mention of this is the product spec?!

@Patrik, can you share a little bit more about the control interface? I guess it is BT(?), but is it possible to have the intelligent home to start/stop the cycles (openHAB in my case).

The main focus has been to simply make it work for what it's intended to do. That is, being damn good at cleaning, and intelligent navigation to get everywhere and not get stuck. The dust container was mad larger since many consumers find it annoying to empty. Like you say @glnc222, it should actually clean the house, that's it. The app is more a convenient way to schedule cleaning and have an easy access to main functions and information.

Interesting comment @vespaman regarding the openHAB. What would you expect from the product to enable that in the best possible way?
